Weight Loss vs. Health Gains

Let's chat about WEIGHT LOSS. Weight loss is something I can honestly say that I have struggled with since my adolescence. It's a subject often mentioned by my clients as well. Weight loss (and the idea of it) is typically a rollercoaster of emotions: fear, disappointment, joy, glee, even acceptance. It's viewed as a destination, and that problems will magically disappear when you hit that goal weight - whether that be emotional or medical. Which isn't usually the case.

It's also something glamorized by society. Something strived for regardless of overall health, and that's unfortunate.

What most people don't realize is that weight gain, is a symptom. It's a symptom of a series of issues compounded by each other. Eating less, exercising until you're exhausted, slurping down meal replacements or prepackaged processed foods to lose weight may work for a short period of time, but it isn't addressing the reason why you gained the weight in the first place. In fact, those methods are more than likely adding to your problem (or creating new ones) in the long run.

Insert: HEALTH GAINS.

When you take a step back and reevaluate your entire lifestyle and start digging down to the root cause you will then begin to see life long health gains. The goal is to support your body foundationally by introducing real nutrient dense foods that work for you, movement that works for you, and a positive mindset that works for you.

Determining why you gained weight in the first place is not a fast process. Expecting fast results by doing what your sister, your friend, or what someone you see on social media did is not realistic. You aren't them, and their root cause is not your root cause. Furthermore, how many years did it take you to get here? It's going to take some time to balance your body.

Focusing on HEALTH GAINS instead of WEIGHT LOSS will serve you for the rest of your life. Stop chasing the symptom, and start addressing the cause.
